Making an appointment

Appointments can be made by contacting our clinic by phone (03) 5023 1627 or email admin@mildurasurgical.com.au. We will do everything possible to prioritise urgent referrals and to make your appointment at a time that is convenient to you.

What to bring to your first appointment at Mildura Surgical Group

Please bring the following to your appointment (or send to us prior):

  • An up-to-date list of your current medications

  • Doctor's referral letter from your GP or medical specialist involved in your care

  • Completed patient registration form. We will provide you with this or you can download the form here

  • All relevant scans/tests, such as x-rays, MRI, bone scan, blood tests, etc

  • Any previous letters or documentation related to your condition

Consultation Fees

Initial consultation - $300

Review consultation - $180

Both fees attract a Medicare rebate, which we can claim on your behalf electronically at the time of payment, provided you have a valid referral in place from your doctor. Payment is required on the day of your appointment.

We accept payment via EFTPOS, cash, and cheque.

If you are covered by WorkCover, TAC or Veterans’ Affairs, there will be no cost to you for any appointments or surgery.

Cancelling an Appointment

If you are unable to attend your appointment, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can reschedule this and offer your cancelled appointment to another patient. We ask that you kindly give us at least 24 hours’ notice, where possible, when cancelling an appointment.

Do I need a referral to see Dr Dunkley?

You will need a referral from a GP or medical specialist involved in your care to see Dr Dunkley. Please bring a copy of this with you or email a copy to us prior to your appointment.

Dr Dunkley is available to speak directly with referrers for urgent advice – please contact our office to leave a message and/or get her mobile number.

Can I bring someone to my appointment?

You are welcome to bring someone with you to your appointment. It can be a good idea to have another person who can ask questions and remember details that you may want to come back to later.

What happens during an initial appointment?

Seeing a surgeon for the first time can be daunting but Dr Dunkley is very welcoming and approachable. She will ask questions to help her understand your symptoms and medical history. She may also do a physical exam and discuss the results of any tests.

If you need to have a procedure or planned surgery, Dr Dunkley will discuss the specific details and explain any risks beforehand. This includes where you will have your surgery and if there is anything you need to do to prepare.

What if I need to cancel?

Please contact us by phone as soon as possible if you are unable to keep your appointment. The waitlist for a clinic appointment can be long, and a late cancellation will mean delaying care for another patient. Late cancellations or failure to attend may incur fees. Please arrive on time for your appointment. On street parking is available and we are wheelchair accessible.

How long will the appointment be?

Appointment times vary depending on the type of consultation (initial, follow up etc). Please ask when you make your appointment for an estimate.

Please allow plenty of time for your appointment.

Some patients have more complex problems and sometimes delays in scheduled appointments are unavoidable. Thanks for your understanding.

How much does it cost to see Dr Dunkley?

You will be required to pay for your consultation with Dr Dunkley at your appointment. Consultation fees are partly covered by Medicare and rebates can be automatically credited to your bank account if you have this set up.

If you need to have a surgical procedure in the private rooms or the private hospital, our team will prepare a quote for your surgery. Dr Dunkley also operates for no charge in the public hospital. Our public hospital is a teaching hospital and trainee surgeons (registrars) and junior doctors and medical students play a major role in the care of our public patients.

Where will I have my surgery?

Mildura Surgical Group provides comprehensive general surgery for patients and families across Mildura and the local region.

Dr Dunkley works at Mildura Base Public Hospital, at the Mildura Health Private Hospital and at the Calvary Adelaide Hospital.
